Activities Against Smoking and Drugs
Following programs will be implemented to boost the ongoing campaign to combat smoking and using drugs and protect drug users from HIV/AIDS.
  • Advisory committee will be formed to draft project proposals and implement projects to avoid smoking and using drugs.
  • Awareness programs will be conducted in 30 schools and 100 youth clubs to prevent young generation from addicting to smoking and using drugs in Galle, Matara, and Hambantota districts.
  • The existing drop in center in Galle will be equipped with new facilities to provide service to a larger number of drug users. Also, new drop in center will be established in Matara district to expand the services.
  • A rehabilitation and vocational training center is expected to be built up to rehabilitate and vocationally train drug addicts in Galle district.
  • Awareness programs will be conducted to prevent drug users from HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases covering Hambantota, Matara, and Galle districts.
HIV/AIDS prevention project for drug users 

HIV/AIDS prevention programs are implemented under this project to prevent drug users (Heroine) and their partners from HIV/AIDS infection.

 Project Location: 

Habaraduva, Kadavathsathara, Hikkaduwa, and Balapitiya divisional secretariat areas in Galle district

 Project Activities: 
  1. In these divisional secretariat areas, 317 drug users and 167 their sexual partners have been identified.
  2. Through 03 fifteen days rehabilitation camps, 64 drug users have been rehabilitated.
  3. Awareness creation on HIV/AIDS.
  4. Carrying out a drop in center for drug users in Galle.
  5. Providing free medical and consultation services for drug users and their family members.
